1940s film noir starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer and Kirk Douglas. Private detective Jeff Bailey (Mitchum) is hired by gambler Whit Sterling (Douglas) to find Sterling’s girlfriend, Kathie Moffett (Greer), after she shoots him and takes off with $40,000 of his money. Bailey tracks her to Mexico, only to fall for her charms. When Kathie convinces Bailey that she is innocent, he tells Sterling that he has been unable to find her – unaware that he is becoming trapped in a tangled web of deceit, murder and blackmail.
